“There is no substitute for hard work”, a great man once blustered (it was Thomas Edison). Whether Thomas would approve of the new Edinburgh Spaces hub, a creative co-working environment for freelancers and entrepreneurs, is anyone’s guess. But we reckon so. A series of free-flowing, ergonomic units greets you as you pass through the glass doors, all crafted with precision and built to inspire your own lightbulb moments.
Our challenge? “We’ve got a launch in May, and we need to make it look cool. Something that mirrors our sociable and creative ethos”. Challenge gleefully accepted.
#WhatWouldEdisonDo?
Like Lawnmower Man meets Tron…meets Robin Hood Prince of Thieves.
“Let’s break out the big guns!” was the collective cry from Cameron’s Creative Studio. Colour, tech, fun, style. Bring it on.
17 sketches (roughly) and 3 hefty proposal docs later, our unique and frankly fabulous Spaces launch event was conceived. More red carpet than you could shake a velvet rope at, a riot of up-lighters in vibrant colours, a Photocube for capturing branded memories, and glow-in-the-dark furniture—and that’s just for starters.
The real pièce de résistance sat proudly in the Spaces lounge area. Strap on the VR headset and enter the House of Fun, a fully immersive virtual circus which lets our hero take part in skeet shooting, paint ball, archery, basketball and the never-tired whack-a-mole, to name but a few. Why stay in the real world when there are virtual moles to hit?
Virtual Reality (VR) is the use of computer technology to create a simulated environment. Unlike traditional user interfaces, VR places the user inside an experience. Instead of viewing a screen in front of them, users are immersed and able to interact with 3D worlds.
We love VR as much as Mickey loves Minnie (a lot).
742 smiles and 1,942 laughs later (creative license, okay?) our evening came to a close. Challenge accomplished—work can be fun, sociable, and innovative. Take that, Thomas.
