Why you should choose a unique venue for your event 11.10.2018 | Blog Author:Jess Maloumi Linkedin While hotel ballrooms, boardrooms and conference suites were once the go-to venues for events, more and more event creators are seeking out unique and unexpected spaces in order to set themselves apart from the competition. And we’re glad! Both Glasgow and Edinburgh are full of one-of-a-kind spaces with untapped event potential. So what can you do to take advantage of this growing trend, and serve up the unexpected at your next event? The benefits of choosing a unique venue Creating a unique event in an unusual space requires a bit more research than your average gig, but the extra effort pays off. Here’s why. Unique venues leave a lasting impression. For modern audiences, the same old set-up at every event just doesn’t cut it anymore. If you want to create an event that your guests will remember, you have to go for something surprising. A unique environment gives your guests something to talk about, as well as making it more likely that they’ll share snaps of your event on social media. Throw in a specific event hashtag, and you’re golden. They are often more customisable. This means there’ll be more opportunities to make the space your own and incorporate bespoke branding. If your chosen venue is a bit unconventional, they’re more likely to have a versatile approach and be open to your input. This is an opportunity to get creative and showcase your brand in the best possible light. They will enhance your event. Mixing things up with your venue choice will probably boost your guest list. In other words, get people curious about an unusual venue, and they’ll be more likely to attend! And even if a traditional venue is more suitable for your needs and objectives, then why not have a reception somewhere fun and a bit different at the end of the day? This rounds off your event in style and lets your guests blow off steam. Types of unique venues So, you’ve decided you want to go for a unique event space – but how do you find one? Here are a few venue ideas to get you started. Art galleries & museums Art galleries and museums – like Kelvingrove Museum in Glasgow and The Scottish National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh – provide a beautiful backdrop for events. The exhibitions and art on the walls will give your guests plenty to talk about, plus the wide open space will encourage people to mix and mingle. These spaces are low-maintenance and high-impact, so they’re perfect for galas, fundraisers and cocktail parties. Warehouses The clean, pared-down architecture of warehouses makes them appealing to event planners, providing a simple and uncluttered space for their event get-up. SWG3 and The Argyle Street Arches in Glasgow are two great examples. These multi-purpose industrial spaces make for breath-taking venues, without feeling upscale or stuffy. This means your event will have a casual and sociable vibe, putting your guests at ease. Historic houses With elegant architecture and breath-taking scenery, historic houses are extraordinary event venues. And, lucky for us, Scotland has plenty of them! Gosford House and Winton House, both in East Lothian, are exclusive events and wedding venues which are guaranteed to make you and your guests feel like royalty. With beautiful interiors, and the option to have marquees in the grounds, they’re perfect no matter the season. Not to mention, the event photography will be stunning – indoors and outdoors. Converted spaces Converted spaces make for interesting event venues. The Assembly Roxy, a converted former church in Edinburgh’s Old Town, is now a multi-functional arts centre and venue. With its original features, stone pillars, a stage and built-in bar, it’s ideal for both corporate and private events. And in Glasgow, you’ve got The Tall Ship – a restored Victorian sailing ship which hosts maritime-themed activities, tours and, of course, events. As one of only 5 ships of its type still afloat in the world today, it’s definitely a one-of-a-kind choice.
