Yes indeed Event Profs, the clock’s ticking and we can see the start of Euro 2024 peaking round the corner….. This week we have; Fury at city’s plan to spend £120k on projection mapping; 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships publishes sustainability report; World first reusable zero waste exhibition stand made from event waste carpet to be unveiled at The Meetings Show; and AeroAVA displays ‘world first’ in augmented drone shows. Fury at city’s plan to spend £120k on projection mapping A row is brewing over plans to spend £120,000 on “civic projections” to mark Edinburgh’s 900th birthday . The City of Edinburgh Council is seeking a contractor to organise “night-time outdoor public projection mappings” in a bid to “enhance civic pride”. But plans to spend £500k of taxpayers’ money on a programme of commemorative events have sparked a backlash from opposition councillors in the City Chambers. As the sum was included in a budget passed by Labour, Liberal Democrat and Conservative members in February, the Scottish Nationalist Party branded the move “shameful” while services were being cut. A contract award notice said: “As part of a wider events programme (Edinburgh 900), the City of Edinburgh Council is seeking to commemorate this milestone through the Edinburgh 900 Civic Projections. “These night-time, outdoor, public projection mappings – running some time between September 2024 and March 2025 – are designed as free art installations to enhance civic pride, engage with our rich cultural history and support our vibrant creative sector. “This one-off project will take place at one or more of the iconic sites within the city.” 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships publishes sustainability report Fantastic to see the sustainability report from the UCI Cycling World Championships 2023 being published. World first reusable zero waste exhibition stand made from event waste carpet to be unveiled at The Meetings Show A world first zero waste, reusable exhibition stand made from event waste carpet will make its global debut at The Meetings Show when it returns later this month. Thanks to a collaboration between creator Paradigm and partners isla, The Bulb, Informa and The Meetings Show, a prototype of the innovative reusable zero waste stand will be revealed to the world’s meetings and events community when the show takes place 19-20 June at ExCeL London. The walls and floor of the truly circular and sustainable stand are built out of Reform, a ‘game-changing’ recycled plastic tile made from old exhibition carpet, with the flooring made using post-consumer ocean plastic fabricated using renewable electricity in the UK. The substructure of the stand is built out of repurposed metal from disused shell scheme, meaning the structure of the stand is made from 100% post-consumer materials. Jack Marczewski, portfolio event director, Northstar Meetings Group, said: “We’re delighted to be working with the partners to provide a platform as well as complimentary stand space to showcase Paradigm’s innovative stand. As part of our ongoing commitment to reach Net Zero by 2050 we’re keen to facilitate and champion positive change among our supply chain and exhibitors, while we also continue benchmarking and measuring to implement short and long-term targets to improve our sustainability performance.” AeroAVA displays ‘world first’ in augmented drone shows Global brand experience technologists Audience & Brands has partnered with drone display company AeroAVA to introduce a “world-first” in augmented drone shows. During the Media Production & Technology Show last month, the two companies unveiled Augmented Drone Shows – a concept that aims to further elevate drone shows into a mixed reality experience for live event broadcast audiences. The new technology allows the ability to live track, generate and overlay digital content accurately, in real-time. AeroAVA managing director Tom Rees said, “This innovation offers a never-seen-before enhancement to existing drone shows, specifically for broadcast viewers. “Taking multiple live camera feeds, our system combines drone telemetry data, high performance media servers and very accurate alignment techniques to return a dynamic range of content options to the OB truck or gallery.” It’s almost full time on this week’s events news…..
